MOVE & TEACH

Qualification dance education

MOVE & TEACH is a 13-month dance pedagogy education program for performing artists with a focus on teaching artistic dance movement. It offers the opportunity for a comprehensive examination of the field of dance education, one's own teaching staff and a holistic approach to the genre of dance. The diverse curriculum brings together artists with different artistic and personal backgrounds and promotes creative potential in pedagogical and artistic processes. The aim of this qualification is to train responsible and reflective teachers who can meet the requirements of contemporary movement education in a variety of professional fields, are aware of the possibilities and weighting of their future work and can thus shape their professional life in a sustainable way.

Graduates of MOVE & TEACH fulfill the requirements for the development, implementation and management of interdisciplinary, art education projects, taking integrative aspects into account. They are able to develop, teach and implement professionally sound and physically appropriate lessons for various target and age groups, either independently or as part of a team. In this way, they make important socio-political, social and health-promoting contributions to children's, youth and adult education through artistic movement.

Possible fields of work could be: Early childhood education (daycare centers, preschools), schools, universities and academies, cultural educational institutions (youth facilities, music schools, etc.), teaching activities as part of further training for teachers and other professional groups who work with dance and movement, sports facilities, museum theaters, companies, dance ensembles and studios, care facilities for senior citizens.

This program includes our CCA.

  • Further information on content and structure

Participants are trained in the core skills of dance and movement education. The focus is on didactic and methodological seminars. The program serves to establish and consolidate basic knowledge and skills in teaching movement as well as intensive theoretical background knowledge. In order to promote the continuous growth of skills and knowledge, practical and theoretical intensive seminars from the following areas are offered: voice, medicine, psychology, project management and organization, dance, physical theater, circus, history, visual arts and other genres. Work shadowing, teaching rehearsals and artistic work support practical relevance and the transition into professional life. Networking and seminars on topics such as law, insurance and project design prepare students for a possible business start-up and freelance work.

The possibility of daily training serves to maintain physical fitness and offers the opportunity to gain an insight into other areas of movement art.

The program consists of practical and theoretical seminars. According to the principle of the interaction of practice and theory, these forms of teaching are not strictly separated, but influence each other. The program dramaturgy offers body and voice a healthy balance of activity and rest phases and at the same time optimally prepares the participants for the physically demanding work as teachers in the field of artistic movement.

MOVE & TEACH - Qualification dance and movement education is divided into 4 sections.

Section 1 - Basic methodological and didactic knowledge

September to October, Monday to Thursday, from 8.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except on public holidays and Berlin school vacations) + time for self-study)

    Section 2 - Creative process

Participation in the CCA program: November to mid-February, Tuesday to Thursday 10.30 to 15.00 + Friday 10.30 to maximum 17.00. The focus is on artistic-creative work and the production process.

Section 3 - Target group specification

Mid-February to early July, Monday to Thursday, from 8.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except on public holidays and Berlin school vacations) + time for self-study). The focus is on working with different target groups (early education, primary school age, youth, senior citizens, inclusion). Knowledge of age specification, physical and psychological characteristics and didactic approaches are taught and participants are encouraged to develop their own stylistic teaching skills.

Teaching rehearsals serve to test the developed dance pedagogical skills and to acquire and consolidate teaching practice. The protected framework of the training is intended to encourage participants to try out new things and to recognize, reflect on and analyse mistakes as an opportunity for learning.

Section 4 - Examination phase and certification

For all those who would like to complete the training with a certificate after the seminar phase (not absolutely necessary), the last section now follows. This includes internships, work shadowing, performance records and project work. Work shadowing is used to get to know, compare and reflect on different methods and models of dance teaching. They also help participants to find their own teaching personality and to develop teaching concepts.
