This workshop combines historical knowledge with physical experience: we engage - theoretically as well as practically - with some of the most defining figures and styles that have shaped Western stage dance. We observe, try, discuss and compare shapes, ideas and techniques of different time periods to deepen our understanding of why we dance the way we do today. In doing so, we trace developments both in their chronological sequence and in their simultaneity, making connections and mutual influences visible. The practical exercises complement this theoretical knowledge with physical experience and reflection: through embodiment, developments become more tangible - providing a basis for reading artistic works, both historical and contemporary, in terms of their traces and references, and for teaching and situating styles and techniques with greater precision.
